Announcing Children’s Chances

Dr. Jody Heymann, a co-investigator on the Maternal and Child Health Equity Project, has recently launched the first products of the Children’s Chances Initiative — a report, book, and website examining what actions countries are taking to make equal life chances for all children a reality. Drawing on systematic analyses of laws and policies from the World Policy Analysis Center — a key partner with MACHEquity — this work highlights global leaders and laggards on numerous social policies in 193 countries. Focusing on laws and policies in the areas of education, child labor, child marriage, poverty reduction, parental care, and equal rights, these data can be used by researchers to examine the impact of social policies on children’s outcomes, by policymakers to identify where their country stands and inspire action, and by civil society as a tool to inform advocacy efforts.
