MACHEquity Coinvestigator on Air Pollution in Urban India

Arnab Mukherji, a MACHEquity coinvestigator based at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, has recently coauthored a paper on the effects of air pollution on the health of children in urban India. The study, which used data from several Indian cities, found that air pollution has a much more negative effect on the children of families living in slums; they are three times more likely to develop respiratory problems than children living outside of slums. These findings offer a reminder that improving air quality in low- and middle-income countries would have powerful effects not only in improving health, but also in reducing health inequalities for the worst-off.
